2K Games Teases a Major Series Sequel for Summer Game Fest Reveal
May-20-2024
Could we be waiting for Borderlands 4, BioShock 4, or Mafia 4? Speculation surrounds 2K Games, which hints at a major sequel release this summer.
2K Games, the renowned video game publisher, is on the brink of unveiling the latest addition to one of its most cherished and successful series later this calendar year.
The announcement is scheduled for the Summer Game Fest event on June 7, as hinted in a recent announcement on the official Summer Game Fest Twitter / X platform. For those not in the know, this occasion has cemented its status in the gaming industry, providing a blend of live online broadcasts, interactive demos, and updates on upcoming game releases.
Eager fans have swarmed social media with guesses on what the reveal could entail. Wishes for it to be Borderlands 4 poured in through Twitter / X responses. Other widely anticipated guesses are a fresh BioShock installment or another Mafia game. Among these speculations, a new scoop on Borderlands seems the most probable.
It's common knowledge that Borderlands 4 is under production, and with the Borderlands film premiering in August this year, aligning a reveal now would be strategic for generating more buzz around the series. Nevertheless, the trajectory of development might have encountered changes after the studio was acquired by Embracer Group in 2021, and subsequently transitioned under the ownership of Take-Two Interactive, which is the parent company of 2K Games.
Though not widely anticipated, I'm leaning toward announcing a fresh chapter in the Civilization saga. Since the launch of Civilization 6 in 2016, it's about time for a new iteration, especially considering the regular DLC releases for Civilization 6 till the Civilization 6: Leader Pass in 2022, indicating a recent downscale in development efforts for this title.
Despite leaning towards Civilization, it remains speculation at this point, and 2K Games' true reveal on June 7 is eagerly awaited.
