Square Enix Embraces Inclusivity: Future Titles Set to Reach Xbox Players

As the gaming landscape evolves, developers are reevaluating their strategies to reach a broader audience. Square Enix is among those companies making significant changes to their release policies, signaling a shift toward greater accessibility of their beloved titles.

Earlier this year, Square Enix took steps that hinted at a new direction, moving away from the stronghold of exclusive titles. For instance, in 2023, they launched Forspoken and the Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, which were either wholly or partially available only on PlayStation 5.

In a discussion with Eurogamer at Gamescom, Naoki Yoshida, who serves as both the producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV, elaborated on this revised strategy. He stressed the intent behind this strategy, highlighting that Xbox owners could anticipate a more significant array of Square Enix games in the near future. He explained that the company is steering away from previous exclusivity policies. Emphasizing their commitment, he noted that the aim now is to have as many players as possible enjoy their offerings.

Yoshida pointed out that Final Fantasy XIV would serve as the catalyst for this change, reinforcing their desire to expand their game releases to Xbox platforms. As a result, he encouraged players to stay excited for what lies ahead.

While there is speculation regarding the potential arrival of Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox, official confirmation is still pending. Furthermore, the remakes of Final Fantasy VII seem to remain exclusively tied to PlayStation in the immediate future. Nevertheless, the outlook suggests that more titles from this renowned developer may find their way to Xbox, broadening the gaming experience for a diverse audience.
