The Witcher 4 Will “Do Something We Haven’t Done Before” – CDPR

With the development focus of CD Projekt RED shifting towards The Witcher 4, currently nicknamed Project Polaris, anticipation is rising. The game is in the pre-production stage with a robust team of over 400 people, and plans to shift to full production later this year.
Given the game's early stage, specific details remain under wraps, but CD Projekt RED is keen to manage expectations. They assert that The Witcher 4 will not simply rehash the successful formula of The Witcher 3. Instead, the forthcoming title is poised to chart new territory. During a recent investor Q&A, co-CEO Michał Nowakowski discussed the creative risks associated with innovation. He suggested that the next installment in their esteemed fantasy RPG series will leverage the studio's collective experience from past projects as a foundation for exploring uncharted gameplay mechanics and elements.
Nowakowski depicted the venture into new gameplay and mechanics as a daring move away from merely replicating the success of The Witcher 3, signaling a departure towards unexplored dimensions within the franchise.
Although details on The Witcher 4 are sparse, CD Projekt RED has shared that the game is being crafted with Unreal Engine 5, confirming its place as the precursor to a new trilogy. Sebastian Kalemba, the game director, assured that this entry would serve as an inviting gateway for those new to the series, broadening its appeal.
The promise of innovation, powered by a significant development team and advanced technology, sets the stage for The Witcher 4 to potentially redefine expectations within the RPG genre and for followers of the series.
